Bon Appetit
Cookbook
The Bon Appétit Kitchen Cookbook is a recipe book that I designed for Emily Carr University's Advance Type course. This cookbook is based on a well-known publication, Bon Appétit, an American food and entertaining magazine.
The project's main goal is to strip an established identity by extracting a few selected recipes from a magazine and presenting the material in a typographic design thats is new, and that challenges the audience's preconceived expectations.
Concept: The cookbook's design was inspired by an arty European book by a Michelin-starred chef. It presented an opportunity to create an elegant, yet simple composition that transforms this material from a food and entertaining magazine into a simple home cookbook recipe.
Layout: The design is centred on typography, which is an important part of the publication's identity. Other materials, such as illustrations and photos, have been included as content-related supporting elements.
The most important aspect of this book is its ability to connect with its intended target audience: adults, who are interested in making simple dishes and desserts. The tone and mood of the publication are elegant and simple, and they perfectly match the interests of the audience.
